put lots of plants inside because that keeps the water clean and provides oxygen and a hiding place for the fish
i take out some water out of my fish tank and replace it with water that is clean because since filters only really pick up particles it is best to take out the actual water .it helps it be ammonia free and gets rid of ick.and i only take out a gallon.this helps a great deel cauz ever since i did this my fish are fat and healthy.before they wud get ick.and dont handle them could stress them.and yes plants give off nutrients and oxygen
Put some water snails and some other alge eater. That can help A LOT!
OK to keep them healthy, you need to feed them and you need to make sure that they have clean water. To get rid of the algae, you need to make sure the pond is clean, and make sure there is enough oxegen in the pond, add a good air pump but if you have a good waterfall that should help too. Feeding them, it depends how big they are, so of course the bigger the more. but maybe 2-4 times a week depending on the weather. I mostly feed mines 1 1/2 hand fulls at a time. i usually give more when it is hotter, and less when it is colder. One last thing, if you want them to have more color and be more beautifuller (if thats a word) give them higher quality food, although it costs more, HIKARI (the best) or Tetrafauna.
Here's something upon which to think. The algae is a symptom of too many nutrients in the water. That is a symptom of overfeeding, or fish not eating the food. At water temperatures below 50F the fish don't eat. Once the temps do reach 50F they resume eating only very slowly. So,the way to stop the algae, and have healthy, active fish is to get the extra nutrients out of the water.,Maybe by doing small water changes,or allowing the overflow from Spring rains flush it out. Then, when you've got nice clear water, give some thought to resuming feeding. One feeding every two or three days should be enough. Ignore the "begging" behavior, that is actually the fish doing what you trained them to do,not really expressing hunger. Over-feeding clouds ponds and kills fish. The algae feeds on ammonia and related compounds. Starve your pond clear and your fish will respond with good health. In colder months the bacteria that feed on ammonia also reduce their activity, and a Springtime ammonia spike can kill fish or leave them with ammonia burns and fungus infections. That food is your enemy, and overfeeding is an act of cruelty. When water temps are below 50F DO NOT FEED ANYTHING AT ALL!.
Don't feed the fish. they will start eating the algea. Do a small change of water once a week to help lower ammonia and add more plants to help maintain water quality.
