Self Help Question And Answer

How can i help my self-esteem about my American Heritage?

Ok, im half american, but i live in england. Im VERY against george Bush and [sorry if this offends anyone] think he is what is wrong with america. anyway, i have always been proud of being half american, but alot of people i know hate americans, and, recently, have sometimes felt ashamed of it, and the last thing i want to be is ashamed of my heratige. i also sometimes hear conversations about Americans, jokes or just general talk, about how stupid Americans are, and it makes me feel so bad. I know that they're are alot of right-wing americans that have [in my opinion] wrong views, but even they are generally nice, and most, if not all the Americans i know are nice people. So what can i do to help my self-esteem about my american heritage?

YOU ARE WHAT YOU ARE!you should be proud of yourself,it doesnt matter who you are or where youre from...as long as you do no harm to other people.
Tell the bastards to f*ck off! You should be proud of who you are no matter what you are. Also, you might try talking to more Americans- online or however. That will give you a connection to your Americanness. And by the way, I'm an American, and I love you, sister. Stay strong.
JUST LEARN THAT THEY ARE NOT VERY AWARE.
Spend some time in the states. See the beauty of the American Landscape. Follow US politics. See that W. has a 30 percent disapproval rating. People love to America-Bash. Just ignore them. You don't have to be proud to be an American. I would just try to understand the culture when people ask you about it. People who are well-informed generally don't bash anybody. They can be critical of it. Getting a subscription to Time or to the New Yorker will give you a cultural weather-vane about contemporary US life.
understand that these people are ignorant and making the same harmful generalizations that many americans are making. And that is thier reason to hate americans in the first place so in the end they should hate themselves but that's not how it works is it. There are English people who have travelled the world and these people are often understanding of what it means to be an individual because they have met a variety of people from other countries. It's hard to say I just won't be friends with these stereotypical racists, but then you may find it very lonely depending where you are. At first you find your self telling them "it's not me. i don't like war." But after months and months it wears on you and you start sticking up for them. "What would you do with murderous dictators?" and pull out all those arguments you fought against before. Just know that we are the most powerful nation and others are only whinning about it cause they're jealous. You didn't hear Britain complaining before they lost thier empire, they were happy to kill and ensalave for profit not even for ideals. We have many liberal heroes- MLK, Angelina Jolie, Stephen Hawkings, Bill Gates, Dare i say Clinton, and many others i'm sure.
